About the YMCA of the Central Bay Area

Our Cause Defines Us.

Founded in Berkeley in 1903 and deeply rooted in the communities we serve, the YMCA of the Central Bay Area is one of the most established human services organizations in the East Bay. We’re a cause-driven nonprofit that ensures people have what they need to get and stay healthy. For more than 100 years, we’ve been bringing families, neighbors and friends together in a motivated and fun environment to learn, play and grow.

Put simply, the YMCA is about you—and all of us—growing better together.

The YMCA of the Central Bay Area is composed of three health and wellness centers in Albany, Pleasant Hill and Downtown Berkeley, 19 child care sites (including Early Head Start and Head Start), and a free, non-membership teen center advancing academic achievement, career preparation, service learning and leadership development for youth in the community.

Every year, we serve more than 35,000 people from a diverse range of ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Since no two communities are exactly alike, no two Y locations are exactly alike. Our programs and facilities are always based on the unique needs and interests of our communities.

Yet every Y has one thing in common: our people. Here at the Y, our staff, volunteers, members and supporters all share a commitment to caring for children, improving our health and giving back to our neighborhoods.

Join us—we could use someone like you.
