Model Legislature & Court

The Model Legislature & Court program gives high school students an opportunity to experience democracy in action and to find their voice while fostering a strong sense of civic responsibility. Individual groups known as delegations meet weekly starting in August to create legislation to be debated at the State Capitol, learn about different roles and program areas of the state legislative and court system, campaign for elected or appointed leadership positions on the delegation and statewide level. Along the way they will build skills in communication, professionalism, and teamwork. They will give back to their communities by performing meaningful service-learning projects. Finally, we will instill the spirit of giving as they tell their story through philanthropic events to help others. Throughout the season they will attend two statewide conferences that will prepare them for their final conference in Sacramento where they set up a model California government.
